The 2021 Champions League Preview

The 2021 Champions League is played in Porto. The Premier League champions, Manchester City, face the 2012 Champions league winners, Chelsea. Approximately 6,000 thousand fans from either team are allowed in the Estadio Dragao stadium in Porto, Portugal. The presence of fans in this match will play a significant role in increasing the intensity and offense.

Manchester City is the favorite to win the 2021 Champions league although the odds have been the same in the last two years. Reaching the UCL final has eluded Pep Guardiola and his men, and this year seems like they will win the trophy. However, Chelsea presents a big hurdle considering they have beaten Pep’s team in the previous two meetings, including the FA Cup semifinals.

What to Expect

It is difficult to call who will win the final despite City being the favorites. Manchester City enjoys a solid defense and lethal attack. In their final Premier League game, City beat 10th placed Everton five-nil, sending a statement on what might happen in the UCL final. The departing Sergio Aguero scored a brace in that match.

On the other hand, Chelsea is defending exceptionally. However, their attackers fall short on expected goals, with Timo Werner missing open chances and getting caught offside too often. Despite these shortcomings, the Blues still pose a threat upfront. Chelsea has struggled against mid-table teams or teams that sit back such as Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Brighton. However, Manchester City is less likely to sit back and invite pressure, meaning that Chelsea has a chance to play their best game and win comfortably.
